Tom Holland’s Rolex Daytona is worth turning heads at Wimbledon
The British actor has established himself as one of Hollywood's top collectors

WIMBLEDON MIGHT BE ONE of the few arenas in a celebrity’s public life to elegantly flash a watch – you clap, you strike a Rodin-Thinker pose. For Tom Holland on day nine of the grand slam, it was clearly an emotional rollercoaster for the Brit. He clapped, gasped, chucked his arms over his head in awe, all the while swinging around a ritzy Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. Sporting the Oyster platinum model, the timepiece features a cool ice-blue, diamond-set dial, with a contrasting chestnut brown bezel. The asking price? $144,700 . . .
It’s no surprise, though, that the Spider-Man actor acquired a staple of the Swiss watchmaker’s stable. In the profitable business of comic-book blockbuster franchises, nine of Holland’s cast-mates ranked in the top 10 of the highest grossing actors of all time. (Scarlett Johansson, who played Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff, recently surpassed Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson in first place: grossing $22.94 billion.) Ever since Holland debuted as the masked aranea in 2016, the Brit has since inherited a taste for expensive timepieces from his on-screen father-figure, RDJ’s Tony Stark/Iron Man.
What makes Tom Holland’s Rolex Cosmograph Daytona special?
Any layperson can confidently say that Daytonas are up there in the pantheon of iconic watches, period. In 2017, the Daytona reached a new level of infamy when Paul Newman’s personal watch went to auction, the gavel going down on $17 million. It turned collecting watches from a nerdy hobby into serious clout. With its triple counter rings and chronograph (parlance for a timepiece with a built-in stopwatch function), it’s one of the most recognisable watches in the world.
Despite the eye-watering price, Holland’s Cosmograph Daytona is readily available in stores. And while not an ambassador to the brand (though jump on that, Rolex, if you’re reading this: he’s about to be in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey), he was spotted earlier this week at the British Grand Prix wearing the watch on his visit to the rainy pit. The Cosmograph Daytona quickly establishes Holland as one of Hollywood’s top collectors, but without the toxicity others have displayed. He’s just a fan.
