A$AP Rocky’s full Celine fit is how preppy is done in 2025
Preppy revival isn't coming from America, but from European fashion houses

IN 2025, preppy isn’t coming out of America. For the past couple of menswear seasons, designers in Europe have united to give the perennial style tribe some fresh legs. One that’s not steeped in its sartorial history with East Coast elite colleges and Florida country clubs. But the Atlantic’s healthy distance that places the two continents apart now conjures the style with romanticised eyes.
Case in point is A$AP Rocky rocking a full fit from the French house Celine. Pulled from Michael Rider’s debut collection, the designer, and one of the few Americans in Paris doing it, has situated himself at the nexus of Europe’s revival of prep. Indeed, Rider’s spring/summer 2026 presentation echoed the hallmarks of his predecessors: Hedi Slimane’s indie-sleaze skinny legs and Phoebe Philo’s broad-shoulder, narrow-waist tailoring. Consider his pedigree, too, as Polo Ralph Lauren’s womenswear designer, no less.
Rocky’s fit on a cool New York day also marks the final weeks of northern summer. With trans-seasonal jacket weather on the rise for those folks, Rocky stuck to his classic ensemble of a camel double-breasted jacket, striped tie and loose-cut jeans. On his eyes were his puffy Ray-Ban Wayfarers, which he designed himself as the eyewear brand’s creative director.
But it’s his accessories that were the focal point. The spring/summer 2026 season was abuzz when Rider sent his version of Philo’s holy relic Luggage Tote down the runway with an expanded silhouette. Now he’s relaunched another legend that Celine-ites would devote countless Tumblr posts to: the Phantom.
And with how slim sneakers have been lately, leather shoes had it coming – our footwear is on Ozempic! Rocky’s wingtip monk strap wasn’t featured in the runway (perhaps an exclusive?), but brings the bastardised dress shoe into the current taste for slim leather footwear.
