THERE’S A CERTAIN ALCHEMY in turning a sneaker into a legend. Take the Moon Shoe – Nike’s waffle-soled prototype first built by cofounder Bill Bowerman in 1972 – and hand it to Jacquemus.

Simon Porte Jacquemus has reworked it into something leaner and sharper: part ballet slipper, part street shoe. The ruched nylon upper, elastic back and Nike Regrind sole nod to history, but with a distinctly modern accent.

The campaign makes its case in sweat. Actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez, shirtless and slick, is caught between motion and stillness in images by Oliver Hadlee Pearch. Shot in dance studios and out on the street, he’s equal parts athlete and muse.

It’s a play of contrasts: soft ruche against rugged rubber, bare skin against high-performance structure, quiet elegance and raw energy. Not just sneaker hype, but a rethink of what a shoe can be.

And when it comes to wearing them? Keep it unfussy. They’re built for movement, so think baggy cords and a crisp oversized shirt, or linen trousers that catch the breeze.

Throw them on with jeans if you like, but the real trick is letting the shoe do the talking — cool, laid back, and just a little offbeat. The kind of styling Jacquemus himself would approve.

The Moon Shoe lands in Jacquemus boutiques on September 28, online at jacquemus.com from today (September 29), and through Nike’s SNKRS app and select stores on October 6.

Now available online at jacquemus.com or Nike’s SNKRS app or Farfetch — your future self will thank you.
