NETFLIX CONTINUES TO show why it’s the one to beat in the ongoing streaming wars. While other platforms are battling an exodus of content (looking at you Binge), constant rebrandings (Max has already changed its name to HBO Max since arriving in Australia), and a general staleness (pick a streamer, they’re all guilty), Netflix is going from strength to strength. Previous months have seen the arrival of hits like Wednesday season two, Untamed and Happy Gilmore 2, now another bumper month lies ahead.
But with so many new films, shows and documentaries arriving every day, choosing what to watch is its own challenge. That’s where we come in. Best new shows on Netflix Australia, October 2025
The Witcher, season 4
Premiering on October 30th, the fourth season of The Witcher is Liam Hemsworth’s first in the leading role as Geralt of Rivia. It’s been two and a half years since Henry Cavill departed the role, meaning fans have had ample time to stew. Teasers of the new season have been sparing in detail, but we have seen the new Geralt take down a wraith and gotten a first look at a new character played by Laurence Fishburne.
Nobody Wants This, season 2
Season one of this charming rom com paired up Adam Brody’s rabbi with Kristen Bell’s agnostic podcaster. As their romance blossoms, bigger questions surrounding their incompatibility make a happy ending seem impossible. In season two, we expect to see if it is, indeed, possible. From the season’s synopsis, we know that there’s “family drama” and “career struggles” impending. Let’s hope the couple can stick it out once the new season arrives on October 23rd.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story
The latest addition to the Monster series, which has previously focused on Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers, turns its attention to notorious serial killer Ed Gein. Charlie Hunnam takes on the role of the ‘Plainfield Butcher’, a Mid-West murderer who was active in the 1940s and ’50s. Expect the usual pseudo-biographical psychodrama that will have you on high alert around strangers for the next few months.

Ballad of a Small Player
Edward Berger’s previous two films, All Quiet on the Western Front and Conclave, have both been hits with critics, so expectations are high for his follow-up Ballad of a Small Player. The new film stars Colin Farrell as a boozy small player who spends his days on the floor of a Macau casino. Our small player is a troubled guy, with a past he can’t seem to escape. That past inevitably catches up to him, with a private investigator played by Tilda Swinton hot on his trail.
The Woman in Cabin 10
This psychological thriller based on Ruth Ware’s bestselling novel stars Keira Knightley as an investigative journalist who is convinced she saw a woman topple overboard on a superyacht into the dark waters below. Guy Pearce and Hannah Waddingham co-star in this gripping deep sea mystery.
