‘Peacemaker’ season 2, episode 7 recap: sounds about alt-right
The band gets back together; tragedy stricks this alt-universe; another 'Superman' cameo in the bag

AFTER LAST WEEK’S BIG cameo, James Gunn is keeping the last few episodes of Peacemaker under wraps. Meaning these recaps will come out slightly after the show has aired. Anyway, this week sees another Superman character make a cameo, albeit a minor one. But as the gang get back together, this universe’s doppelgangers come to a tragic end.
Below, we recap the happenings of ‘Like a Keith in the Night’.
Sounds about alt-right

The identifiable difference between the two Emilias is that our one wears pants. Now, I’m not sure if the Alt-universe are misogynists as well as racist – are women expected to only wear skirts/dresses in this universe? – but it’s a huge shock to Keith. As the other Emilia comes face-to-face with her doppelganger with beachy waves, Chris and our Emilia make a run for it on the Peace-cycle. The cops aren’t in pursuit for long when Keith and Auggie fly in with missiles to “save” the pair.

The Sons of Liberty are the good guys in Peacemaker
In this universe, the Nazis won World War II, spreading their fascist ideology across the world, even in this pocket of Washington state. The Sons of Liberty, on the other hand, were founded on resistance, a faction the other Adrian, thankfully, belongs to. As he gets to talking with his doppelganger, he thinks our universe sounds like a utopia. Our Adrian’s prolonged ummmm says it all: ‘utopia’ is subjective. But for comparison, yes, it is. The two make plans to look for and save Leota.
Electrocute the racists

Our girl Leota had the fright of her life when taking a stroll on the sidewalk turned into being hounded by Nazis. She makes a run for it in a backyard, jumping into the pool for the racists to follow. (Not very bright, are they?) Judomaster, who followed Chris initially and has been staking it out in the empty house, saves her from an “unfair fight” and electrocutes the pool with a phone. It’s the most he’s ever killed by aqua-electric shock, beating his personal best of four.

Recovering inside, Leota and Judomaster bond over the differences in this alt-reality, like how Cheetos don’t taste as good spelled Cheetohs, or how nonsensical Scromble sounds. He’s also been reading the history books in the house about the Nazis taking over. It’s not good to be a minority here, he concludes, or to be gay or Buddhist, like himself. Judomaster isn’t totally sold on Chris’ good side either, that the “Jingoistic garbage person with the musical taste of the next-door kid in Toy Story” would prefer it in that Alt-universe. (That’s a read.)
Judomaster and Leota move on to Auggie’s house, where the Adrians meet up with them. Naturally, there is no Judomaster here, so the other Adrian is curious about his semen splashed-looking logo on his chest.
Alt-Auggie is the opposite

Auggie captured Economos while he was crawling around the house last episode. Now tied up, Economos revealed that there’s a whole crew of trespassers on the loose for Auggie and Keith to round up. With Chris and Emilia brought back, Auggie says he ran into our Auggie (aka White Dragon) ages ago, and could recognise that he came from a world darker than his. That’s half true, but the difference is that this Alt-Auggie is a liberal democrat who hates his world of Nazis. Had our Auggie lived, he would’ve happily swapped worlds, perhaps.
This Auggie is also a better-adjusted father as he listens to Chris’ POV: we wandered into their reality, curious about the differences, what Keith would have been like all grown up. Killing his doppelganger was also just an accident; the Alt-Peacemaker was a drug addict and had violent tendencies, so our Chris acted on instinct to kill him. While AUggie is sympathetic, Keith is still red with fury. (Keith also gets a dressing down from his father for chasing Leota; that isn’t what we do.)
RIP Alt-Auggie

Which is why Alt-Auggie’s fate truly made me gasp – you could feel for Chris, who finally had a version of his father he could talk to. Our Adrian, I’m guessing, jumped through the window and stabbed the Blue Dragon in the neck several times, while the crew pinned down Keith and got a few hits in on him too. Chris yells “Stop!” like an overwhelmed middle child in distress, looking around at his friends, who have we become?? The portal is back open as they make their escape. Emilia tried to shoot Keith in the head so we wouldn’t follow them, but the cops (who are still pigs in this universe) barged in. I hope the other Adrian got out safely, too.
Flag tries to open the portal in Peacemaker
Over in our universe, Rick Flag Sr and ARGUS are still in pursuit of Chris and the portal. From last week’s big cameo, Lex Luthor referred Sydney Happersen (played by Stephen Blackeheart), who was his head technician in Superman, to help them find the portal’s signal. He wears huge glasses and a thick ’80s adult film star stache; Sydney responds well with a flirty smirk when Flag Sr thanks him.
The 11th Street kids may have escaped Nazis and fascism, but now walked into ARGUS’ hands. Keith will no doubt follow them to our universe. Chris is the only one taken into custody as he dozes off in the back seat of the police car, ‘We Can Never Die’ by the Vains of Jenna playing.
