THE FESTIVE SEASON
is well and truly underway, and with it comes a desire to repeat the rituals of years gone by. We’re talking about the annual binge of every piece of festive-themed content you can find is practically a Christmas tradition. We’re sure family-friendly classics like Elf, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Home Alone will be getting a rewatch. Alan Rickman’s behaviour in Love Actually will once again stir up controversy. And debates will be had regarding whether Die Hard qualifies as a Christmas movie, or is just a movie set over Christmas.

In any case, it’s a good time to have a Netflix subscription. The streaming service is packed with content (Christmas-themed or otherwise), and this December will see yet another wave of new shows and movies heading to the platform. The new content is arriving in such quantities that choosing what to watch becomes its own challenge. That’s where we come in. To help you find what’s worth watching on Netflix in December, we’ve rounded up the best new pieces of content coming to the streamer.

Scroll on, and get ready to add to your watchlist.

Stranger Things 5: Volume 2

If you’re reading this because you watched the first four episodes of Stranger Things season five and are now desperate to finish the series, we regret to inform you that you will have to wait all the way until December 26. For some ghastly reason, Netflix decided to get experimental with the release schedule of its biggest ever series. Episodes five through eight of Stranger Things season five will release on December 26, with the finale coming out on December 31. Look on the bright side, the hype will be astronomical by then!

Emily in Paris: Season 5

That’s right, season four of Emily in Paris did only come out back in September, but season five is already cleared for takeoff. This time, Emily is living – and thriving – in Rome. At the end of season four, Emily was appointed head of Agence Grateau’s Rome office. But that doesn’t mean the series is done with Paris for good. Especially not with Gabriel is on his way to Rome to win Emily back.

Man Vs Baby

A follow-up to 2022’s Man Vs Bee, this four-episode series pits Rowan Atkinson against a baby. Atkinson’s Trevor Bingley takes a quiet job as a school caretaker, but when no one collects the Baby Jesus from the school’s nativity play, Bingley finds himself stuck with a new companion for the holidays. The antics you’re doubtlessly expecting then ensue.

Jay Kelly

In Jay Kelly, George Clooney takes on the role of a suave movie star facing an identity crisis – a moment of not-so-subtle introspection, perhaps? – who goes on a listless adventure across Europe with his long-time manager, played by Adam Sandler. The pair weigh their life choices while pondering the legacies they’ll leave behind. Laura Dern, Riley Keough, Billy Crudup, Jim Broadbent, Lenny Henry and Greta Gerwig are among the ensemble cast.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery

The third instalment in the Knives Out series – which we’re hesitant to call a trilogy, considering how quickly it’s gone from a standalone film to a franchise – is out on December 12. This time, Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc is brought into the world of a charismatic priest and his devout congregation. When a murder that seems impossible to pull-off occurs, Blanc is tasked with navigating a complex web of secrets and simmering tensions from within the tightly-knit community. Among the ensemble cast is Josh O’Connor, Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner and Jeffrey Wright.
