ANOTHER MONTH, another smorgasbord of new films and shows to add to your streaming watchlist. 2024 is flying by, and it seems that with every passing month, that watchlist is only getting longer. April will give you a good chance to catch up though, as the Easter long weekend and ANZAC day provide a string of public holidays in quick succession. Although, any dent made in your watchlist will likely only be temporary, given how much new content is coming to streaming platforms next month.
There will be something for everyone on streaming platforms in April. Whether you’re a fan of side-splitting comedies or intense dramas. But that’s part of the problem. The big hitters like Netflix, Disney+ and Stan are so packed with content that it makes it difficult to discern what’s worth your time and what’s best left on the backburner – especially when you’re prone to indecision and are paying for the luxury of choice.
Not to worry though, Esquire has you covered. Featuring everything from critically acclaimed blockbusters finally making their digital debuts to the premiere of long-awaited original series, we’ve rounded up all the very best films and shows coming to streaming platforms in April 2024.
What’s new on Netflix in April?
April Netflix Highlight – Heartbreak High season 2
April is going to be a particularly huge month for Netflix. As you’ll see, April 1st brings about a slew of new content that Netflix has secured the rights to. Headlining Netflix’s newcomers is the return of Heartbreak High for the reboot’s second season. It’s not often we see Australian made content capturing the world’s attention – not that there’s any shortage of talent down here – but when it does, it’s always exciting. Heartbreak High has managed to replicate the success of the original show, which had seven seasons. With any luck, season two won’t be the reboot’s last.
Elsewhere, American motorsports are getting the Drive To Survive treatment in 100 Days to Indy, which focuses on the behind the scenes action leading up to the Indianapolis 500. While Ripley is a new series based on the same book that The Talented Mr. Ripley was adapted from. The series has a tall task in living up to its predecessor, but with Andrew Scott in the leading role, we can’t count it out. Finally, Zac Snyder’s much maligned sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, which premiered at the end of 2023, is getting a sequel that will arrive midway through the month. The first film wasn’t great, according to just about every critic, but Snyder will get his chance at redemption.

What’s new on Disney+ in April?
April Disney+ Highlight – The Greatest Hits
It’ll be a relatively quiet month on Disney+ this April. A few shows are getting new episodes weekly, but for the most part, viewers can expect a slight reprieve from the usual onslaught of new content. There are still a few new additions to watch out for though, not least of which is The Greatest Hits. The film follows Harriet (played by Lucy Boynton), who discovers that music can transport her back in time. In the past, she relives memories with her former boyfriend, while in the present, a new love interest leaves her with a difficult decision.
Also on Disney+ next month, family friendly film Wish will be making its streaming debut, We Were The Lucky Ones, which tells the inspiring story of a Jewish family separated during World War II, will debut, and Bon Jovi fans will get an all-access look at the band’s history in Thank You, Good Night: The Bon Jovi Story.

What’s new on Amazon Prime Video in April?
April Amazon Prime Video Highlight – Fallout
Fallout is easily the most highly anticipated original series heading to any streaming service this month –and there’s good reason for the anticipation, the series was first announced all the way back in 2020. The show is an adaptation of the Fallout video game series, and video-to-streaming adaptations have been all the rage recently, with The Last Of Us and The Witcher setting a strong precedent.
For those unfamiliar with the Fallout universe, the games are set in the post-apocalyptic USA, in the aftermath of a nuclear war. Survivors are desperately trying to rebuild and salvage some semblance of civilisation, while the barren wasteland of America is marked by radiation, mutated creatures and unfriendly encounters around every corner. Expect the adaptation to follow the same tune.
