DURING THE THIRD episode of the Netflix documentary, Beckham, David Beckham talks candidly about his choice in hairstyles during his footballing career (among many other things), but especially his choice to don a buzz cut at the height of his fame at Manchester United—much to the gaffer’s dismay.

“I had a hairdresser at the time called Tyler. I said to him, ‘I’m gonna cut my hair’ and he was like, ‘Are you sure? You really want to do that?,’ ” Beckham explained in the docuseries.

Beckham goes on to say that Manchester United’s coach Sir Alex Ferguson confronted him about the ‘new style’ ahead of their match against Leicester City in March 2000. “And [Ferguson] said, ‘David take the cap off.’ And I said, ‘No.’”

“Stubbornness,” Ferguson recalled. “And then I said, ‘Oh well.’”

Beckham obviously knew what he was doing, and has long been a purveyor of trends, from fashion to grooming and everything in between. And heading into the summer season, the idea of getting a classic buzz cut makes a lot of sense, especially for those seeking a low maintenance hair style.
