ON TOP OF WINNING three Grammys, packing stadiums to the rafters, and being a style icon, Harry Styles is a marathon runner. Not on my 2025 bingo card, but the 31-year-old singer outed himself as a runner earlier this year during the Tokyo Marathon, where he clocked in 42.2 km at an impressive 3:24:07. (Putting him in the 92.96 percentile of marathon runners, FYI.)

He followed that up over the weekend in Berlin – reportedly using the pseudonym Sted Sarandos – where the former One Direction singer beat his personal best with a sub-three-hour time of 2:59:13. (Bumping him up to the 97.44 percentile.)

All the while, the Brit won first place in another lane entirely: style.

For both marathons, Styles opted for his favourite Junya Racer shades from cult running brand District Vision, wearing a bubble gum pink colourway in Berlin. Founded in Los Angeles in 2016, District Vision has been a choice label for the style-conscious runner, its popularity swelling in recent years along with run clubs and luxury brand collaborations.

I, for one, have been needing to upgrade my running kit, and a pair of running sunglasses is a good place to start. Thankfully, and with the help of celebs like Styles, the market has caught up to this need.

Below, we rounded up some of our favourite pairs.

  • Wraparound design – it also provides max coverage, full peripheral protection, and better aerodynamics.
  • Sustainable materials – once upon a time, sunglasses were made out of real tortoiseshell (hence the style name). For running sunglasses, the best brands around are using recycled plastics and bio-based materials.

The best running sunglasses to buy in 2025

Junya Racer Powder Rose, D+ G15 Silver Flash Mirror

These are the sunglasses in question that Styles wore in Berlin. Ask any stylish (and fast) runner, and they’ll probably name District Vision as their go-to. Style cred aside, the California-based brand earns its reputation by making shades lighter than a feather and, crucially, ensuring they don’t bounce when you hit the track. As for this pair, the brand developed it with District Vision’s D+ Silver Flash, designing it specifically for high-intensity pursuits that demand maximum sun protection.

maui jim running sunglasses

Maui Jim Ho’okipa Ultra

Maui Jim has carved a niche for itself in the eyewear space as a bellwether for what vintage styles will circulate back in. They’ve since adapted these trends to their activity-based range, namely running, so customers get the best of both form and function. The Ho’okipa, in particular, looks like the kind of sunnies Brad Pitt would wear to the airport in the ’90s. But these are made in the Hawaii brand’s Ultra specs for better durability and colour resolution.

Zeal Harbinger

The shield style is what most runners are familiar with; the wraparound lens ensures optimal peripheral coverage. The Harbinger from Zeal, though, is fitted out with its optimum goggle lenses (the snowboarding goggles vibe) amplifies colour and contrast, keeping vision and focus razor-sharp.

oakley custom radar ev

Oakley Custom Radar EV

If you fancy yourself a pick-and-mix kind of style enthusiast, Oakley’s tried-and-true Radar EV gives you the option to create your own lens and frame combos from a slew of colours and materials.

oakley Eye Jacket™ Redux Latitude Collection running sunglasses

Oakley Eye Jacket Redux Latitude Collection

The original Oakley Eye Jacket was a staple in noughties fashion, and it seems poised for a return this decade with the California-based brand’s rerelease. Featuring oval lenses and a wraparound frame, it gives Spy Kids vibes.

oslo running sunglasses

Roka Oslo 2.0

The tech-y look of most running sunglasses isn’t for everyone, and that’s fine. Thankfully, Texan brand Roka solved this issue by designing the Oslo model, which looks like regular frames but withstands most outdoor sports activities.
