THEY CALL IT the AFL’s night of nights, and it’s not hard to see why. On Monday in Melbourne, footy’s biggest stars pulled on their black tie best for the 2024 Brownlow Medal, bringing their partners, teammates, friends and mothers along for a ride down the red carpet. And while the Brownlow is said to be all about the ladies (and rightly so, there were some sublime gowns on show), the guys didn’t let us down. While the most popular choice was a classic tux and bow tie (most of the players we spoke to on the red carpet admitted to wanting to keep it simple), we saw some fantastic accessorising, with players like Harley Reid, Darcy Moore and Cody Weightman dialling up their looks with a touch of bling.

Speaking of Weightman, the overwhelming consensus on the carpet is that he’s the AFL’s most stylish player. Bringing his mum Nicole along for the night, the Bulldogs gun looked elite in all-black Boss, complete with a diamond chain brooch by Melbourne brand Kitte. Points also to Hawthorn’s Jack Ginnivan, who went for a white dinner jacket and Prada loafers, and Darcy Moore, who collaborated with Melbourne designer Christian Kimber to bring his monochrome ensemble to life.

Carlton’s Patrick Cripps claimed the night’s top honour, storming home with a record-breaking 45 votes. The Perth native now has two Charlie’s to his name, and we don’t think it’ll be his last.
