The best dressed men at the 2024 CFDA Awards

WHAT ARE THE CFDA AWARDS, you ask? Great question, because compared to the year’s premiere red carpet events – the MET Gala, Venice Film Festival, etc. etc – the American fashion gala flies under the radar. But the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) is the governing body of the American fashion industry, and its annual awards ceremony honours the designers, icons and media makers who have defined the year in Stateside style.

But American fashion being the behemoth it is, it’s not just industry peeps walking the red carpet. Some of the world’s biggest celebrities are in attendance – Omar Apollo, Charles Melton, Sebastian Stan and Australian singer and style icon Troye Sivan among them.

The CFDA 2024 Menswear Designer of the Year award went to Willy Chavarria. The Californian creative director has had a phenomenal year, crafting custom looks for the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Omar Apollo, while gaining attention for his politically resonant runway shows, which have become a highlight on the New York Fashion Week schedule.

Elsewhere, a who’s who of fashion’s most influential people were honoured at the gala. The Fashion Icon award went to Erykah Badu, who, true to form, turned up in a suitably bonkers look. Meanwhile, Michael Kors took home the Positive Change award, while Daniel Roseberry, the American creative director of French haute couture house Schiaparelli, received the International Designer of the Year award.
