PERHAPS WE SHOULD HAVE known it from the moment Cillian Murphy stepped out on the red carpet for the 96th Academy Awards mere days ago, dressed sharply in a classic tailored tuxedo by Atelier Versace—but as of today, the award-winning Irish actor is officially a Versace Icon.

The Oppenheimer actor, who swept the awards season—winning in the Best Actor categories across the SAG Awards, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and ending on a high with a win on his first-ever Oscars nomination—is the debut male talent to be tapped for the Italian luxury fashion house’s Icons collection, which encapsulates Versace’s defining codes through a series of wardrobe staples and timeless signatures.

It’s a perfect fit: Murphy, the embodiment of minimalist, timeless style, having opted for understated yet classic ensembles throughout the entirety of the Oppenheimer press tour, from finely-cut suits to trousers paired with a pop of colour by way of a sleek cardigan or tee.

He continued that winning streak of red carpet dressing on the Oscars red carpet in custom Atelier Versace, slyly teasing his now-confirmed partnership with the Maison in a white silk tuxedo shirt, paired with a jet-black jacket, trousers and silk bow tie—with a starburst-shaped brooch from Sauvereign nodding to his role as Robert J. Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb.

“I am thrilled that Cillian is joining the Versace family,” Donatella Versace, the brand’s creative director, said in a statement announcing Murphy’s appointment to Icon status. “He is a truly exceptional actor and totally deserves his Oscar win. He is magnetic and mesmerising in front of a camera and I loved seeing him bring Versace to life.”

If Murphy’s sharp-suited Oscars appearance was anything to go by, we’re looking forward to what’s to come during his time as a Versace Icon—and fortunately, we won’t have too long to wait, with his first campaign for the collection launching globally on April 3. The Maison have teased that we can expect to see the actor “wearing key and timeless pieces from the men’s Versace Icons collection”. The Icons campaign has already treated us to sultry shoots starring the likes of Anne Hathaway—Murphy’s co-star in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises, coincidentally—so we’re ready to experience those piercing blue eyes harnessed by the Versace lens to bring out their full smouldering potential.
