Drake has been touring the tour for weeks, by way of a few cryptic Instagram stories. In a story posted on November 12, the professional beefer shared a throwback from his first Aussie tour in 2015. Drake’s last Australian tour was in 2017 for Boy Meets World. Standing on a balcony at the Park Hyatt Hotel, looking out to the sails of the Sydney Opera House, the Canadian rapper captioned the photo, “It’s been 7 years [eyes emojis]”.
He officially announced he’d be touring Australia on a livestream with Canadian YouTuber xQc.
Indeed, it has been a long time since his last visit, and a lot has happened for the him in the interlude. Since his last visit in 2017, Drake has released albums Scorpion in 2018, Certified Lover Boy in 2021, Honestly, Nevermind in 2022, and For All The Dogs last year. But instead of contributions to his discography, Drake made headlines earlier this year for his beef with Kendrick Lamar, the two rappers dropping diss tracks about one another.
With lyrics laden with attacks on one another’s style, family, and character, the tracks also touched on serious allegations. In one of the tracks by Lamar, ‘Not Like Us’ is about Drake’s allegations of pedophilia and sexual misconduct, while also criticising the Canadian’s cultural identity and relationships with artists based in Atlanta, Georgia. That same track is now nominated for Song of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
