The world of ‘Dune’ is set to come alive once again. But this time, 'Dune: Prophecy' will take us back 10,000 years before the time of Paul Atreides. Here's what you need to know about the series

DUNE: PART TWO may have come and gone, and who knows when we’ll be seeing Timothée Chalamet on the big screen again as the now spiced-up messiah Paul Atreides. But, in the meantime, the first trailer for the highly-anticipated Dune prequel TV series just dropped.
Titled Dune: Prophecy, the prequel will be set in the same Dune universe, only 10,000 years before the ascension of Chalamet’s Atreides, supplementing Denis Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy. An adaptation of Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s novel Sisterhood of Dune, the series will follow how the witch-like Bene Gesserit came to be the power behind the curtain (or, more appropriately, the veil).
The series is riding off the laurels of Dune: Part Two’s $750 million global box office success, as distributors have released the first teaser trailer (seemingly out of nowhere, but we’ll take it!). A minute and a half-long, the trailer is more than enough to go on until its release later this spring.

What is Dune: Prophecy about?
If you were a fan of the Bene Gesserit and all their scheming ways in the films, Dune: Prophecy will provide a much needed backstory to the intergalactic sisterhood. The series is based on the 2012 novel Sisterhood of Dune by Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert, the elder son of Frank Herbert, who wrote the original Dune series all the way back in 1965 with the first novel, and then publishing his last, Chapterhouse: Dune, in 1985.
The series adaptation will trace the roots of how the Bene Gesserit came to be, a powerful intergalactic sisterhood who undergo intense physical training and mental conditioning to obtain superhuman abilities. Later members of the sect include Sarah Ferguson’s Lady Jessica Atreides and Léa Seydoux’s Lady Margot Fenring in the films. The story will follow the two sisters who established the sisterhood, Valya and Tula Harkonnen, played by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams. So, look forward to seeing where all the meddling of aristocratic bloodlines started, as the focal point of the series will be about the first Bene Gesserit sister on the throne.
Who is in Dune: Prophecy?
As this is a prequel, we will not be seeing stars like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler or Florence Pugh return here. Who will Travis Fimmel play in Dune: Prophecy?
Travis Fimmel will play Desmond Hart, “a charismatic soldier with an enigmatic past” who seeks to gain Emperor Javicco Corrino’s (Mark Strong) trust at the expense of the Sisterhood.
Dune: Prophecy marks Fimmel’s second HBO project, his first being the sci-fi drama Saved By Wolves.

Who will Josh Heuston play in Dune: Prophecy?
According to Variety, Aussie actor Josh Heuston (who you might know best from Netflix’s Heartbreak High) is set to star in a recurring role as Constantine Corrino. If the last name sounds familiar, the House Corrino is the same great house Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan and Christopher Walken’s Emperor Shaddam IV belong to in Dune: Part Two. As the illegitimate son of Mark Strong’s Emperor Javicco Corrino, Heuston’s character is described as being “torn between seeking his father’s approval and his own happiness.”
Who Dune: Prophecy‘s director?
As expansive as any TV series is, there will be more than one director on board. Anna Foerster served as director for multiple episodes of the series, including the first. Best known for directing films such Underworld: Blood Wars (2016) and The Day After Tomorrow (2004), it’s safe to say Foerster has an eye for action in sci-fi worlds.
