It's official: Fred Again is touring Australia
After teasing more Australian dates at his surprise Sydney show, it's been announced that Fred Again is in fact playing more shows at some of the country's biggest arenas.
CUE MORE MELTDOWN, Fred Again has announced six more Australian tour dates after playing a surprise show at the Sydney Opera House last night. And the shows are taking place at some of Australia’s biggest music venues.
Following last night’s sold out show (read our review here), the British artist has announced he’ll be playing three more shows in Sydney and three in Melbourne. He’ll be performing at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on March 4, 5 and 6, before returning to Sydney to play Qudos Bank Arena on March 12, 13 and 14.
He’ll also be playing a yet to be disclosed “pop up location” on the Gold Coast on March 9. Tickets for all shows go on sale tomorrow.
All of this pandemonium follows 24 hours of speculation triggered by an Instagram story, in which Fred Again confirmed he wasn’t only in Australia, but he’d be playing a surprise show at the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday February 27. On Tuesday morning, he posted another story (from the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, no less) with the caption: âAustraliaaaaaa!!!!! We here! ⊠Sydney opera house show tonight!!!!â.
As you can probably imagine, the Sydney Opera House was heaving with fans as the artist, whose real name is Frederick John Philip Gibson, played bangers from ‘Delilah’ to ‘Kyle’, his signature red and blue lights drenching the stage in colour as clips of his friends mouthing the voice notes that have become signature to Fred’s music played on a huge screen behind the stage.
On stage, Fred teased that he would be playing more Australian dates, yet a tour of this magnitude is next level-big.
Here, we break down everything we know so far about the musician’s shotgun trip down under.
Where is Fred Again playing in Australia?
The man responsible for soundtracking Covid (Actual Life, Actual Life 2 and Actual Life 3 became a sonic companion for those of us missing sweaty dance floors during lockdowns) played a surprise show last night at the most hallowed venue in Australia, the Sydney Opera House.
Now, he’s announced he’ll also be playing shows in Sydney and Melbourne, with an undisclosed show also taking place in the Gold Coast. You can see his full tour dates here.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow, and just like we did for the Opera House show, punters can expect to queue for hours as hundreds of thousands of people clamour for a spot. Again, Godspeed.
Is Fred Again going to Melbourne?
YES. Melburnians, who make up Fred’s third largest listening region in the world, will have three chances to see the man play on March 4, 5 and 6. While he hasn’t announced a Brisbane show yet, those living in the sunshine state will have a chance to see him on the Gold Coast.
As for where that show will take place, stay tuned. We’ll keep you posted as more information comes through.
