BREAKING: Giorgio Armani has died, age 91
According to an official statement made by his team at the Armani Group, the designer and billionaire passed away surrounded by loved ones

GIORGIO ARMANI, the iconic Italian fashion designer and founder of the Armani empire, has died at age 91 in Milan on 4 September 2025, according to a statement released by the Armani Group. His death marks the passing of one of the most influential figures in global fashion, a designer whose name became synonymous with elegance, power dressing, and modern Italian style.
In official posts made on the Armani Instagram account, the late designer’s team confirmed that “With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani.”
Born on 11 July 1934 in Piacenza, Italy, Armani originally studied medicine before shifting paths after military service. He began his career at La Rinascente as a window dresser and buyer, later designing for Nino Cerruti. In 1975, alongside Sergio Galeotti, he launched his own label, Giorgio Armani, laying the foundation for what would become a luxury fashion powerhouse.
Armani’s softly tailored suits defined the 1980s and reshaped both menswear and womenswear. His clean, deconstructed jackets became a cultural symbol through films like American Gigolo and television hits such as Miami Vice. Beyond tailoring, Armani extended into haute couture with Armani Privé, diffusion lines like Emporio Armani, and global lifestyle ventures spanning fragrance, hotels, and homewares.
In June 2025, declining health forced him to miss his first Milan Menswear show, though he continued to oversee his collections remotely. In their official statement, the Armani Group said, “With infinite sorrow … we commit to protecting what he built with respect, responsibility, and love.”
From Hollywood red carpets to Olympic uniforms, Armani’s influence touched nearly every corner of culture. His death closes the chapter on a designer who gave Milan its sartorial authority and made “Made in Italy” a global standard.
According to the Armani HQ, the funeral chamber will be set up from Saturday, 6 September to Sunday, 7 September, and will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., in Milan inside the Armani/Teatro.
In accordance with Mr. Armani’s explicit wishes, the funeral will be held privately.
