From ‘Frankenstein’ to ‘One Battle After Another’: these are all the 2026 Golden Globe nominations
With four Australians nominated, and the heated bidding war for Warner Bros. intensifying, these are all of the nominees for the first stop on the awards race

TO QUOTE MOIRA ROSE, the delusional matriarch in Schitt’s Creek, her favourite season is upon us: awards. First up is the 83rd Golden Globe Awards on January 11, 2026, where comedian Nikki Glaser will return as the night’s host.
With the full list of nominees, spanning film and television, announced overnight, think of the Golden Globes as the early ballots cast for who will perhaps take the ultimate prize: the Academy Awards. But don’t think of it as just a warm-up – categories at the Globes are much more diverse (separating Best Motion Picture by genre, for instance), so indicators are spread thick here.
Breaking down the Golden Globe 2026 nominations
Nevertheless, it’s just the start of the awards race, and like every year, there are dominations, surprises, and snubs. Top performers in the Motion Picture categories, One Battle After Another received the most nods with nine, followed by Sentimental Value with eight and Sinners with seven. In television, season three of The White Lotus brought in six nominations (three of which for Aimee Lou Wood, Carrie Coon and Parker Posey in the Actress in a Supporting Role category), meanwhile, Adolescence came in with five.
In saying that, the Golden Globes reaffirm the allure of Warner Bros. Discovery, the studio that produced One Battle After Another, Sinners and The White Lotus (HBO). And with Paramount now in talks of acquiring Warner Bros. for US$108 billion, the awards race may only intensify the bidding war.
Aside from the major studio empires, independent studio Neon is hot competition with 21 nominations across film and television categories, the most of any studio. Its heavy hitters in this race include Sentimental Value, It Was Just An Accident, The Secret Agent, and No Other Choice, which are all international feature films.
It will also be a big night for the Australians in the crowd. First, there’s Jacob Elordi for Frankenstein, as well as his role in The Narrow Road for the Deep North, which was snubbed at the Emmys. In the main acting roles in a Motion Picture, Joel Edgerton for Train Dreams and Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You are flying the Southern Cross flag. And in her return to television, Sarah Snook has shed Shiv Roy with her heart-wrenching performance in All Her Fault.
