What is that giant yellow bag? It's a Coach Tabby, and it's in Melbourne
The iconic New York brand has launched its Tabby Shop pop-up in Melbourne. See inside the buzzy opening party here.
IN RECENT MONTHS, CGI graphics of faux giant inflatables, from Big Ben to Bondi Beach, have been trending online. But in Melbourne this week, New York luxury brand Coach took things a step further—bringing a real-life giant inflatable version of their iconic Tabby bag to the heart of Melbourne’s CBD.
The American fashion house was celebrating the opening of its experiential Tabby Shop pop-up store, which will take over Daniel’s Car Park on Lonsdale Street from March 14 to 17. Taking cues from the brand’s signature sense of optimism and playfulness, the bright yellow pop-up space invites shoppers and casual passersby alike to enjoy all kinds of immersive experiences, including the giant inflatable Tabby bag, which doubles as a jumping castle, allowing you to quite literally bounce inside the world of the Tabby itself.
Across the weekend, a DJ booth, Coach Records, will play host to a revolving set of local talents, while the in-house Coach Coffee Shop slings bespoke Tabby and daisy-shaped cakes by famed South Yarra cake shop, Le Yeahllow.
Should you wish to take your pop-up experience to another level, you may, by shopping a curated selection of Tabby bags—the iconic quilted yellow iteration is our favourite.
At the launch party for the pop-up this week, Coach welcomed guests, who were decked out in the SS24 collection, to immerse themselves in the Tabby world. The likes of actor Miah Madden, musicians Tyde Levi, C.FRIM and Jerome Farah, models Billie-Jean Hamlet and Odell Mun, and creatives Yasmin Suteja and Nyaluak Leth came together to the vibey tunes of local DJ Soju Gang & Friends in residence at Coach Records.
After popping up in Melbourne for the weekend, the Tabby Shop will head to Korea and Taiwan, as well as some additional locations around the globe with bespoke curations and activations. But until then, it’s Melbourne’s turn to discover the colourful, cheeky world of the Tabby.
The pop-up is open from 11am to 6pm, until Sunday March 7. We wouldn’t recommend missing out. For more information and to book tickets, visit the website here.
