AMAZON STUDIOS has just revealed its first teaser for Saltburn: the second feature film from Oscar-winner actor-director Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman). While details are not plentiful, a look at the teaser tells us that the film is dark, excessive, dangerous yet artistically beautiful, with pundits describing the drama/thriller as a cross between The Talented Mr. Ripley-meets-Brideshead Revisited—expect “a beautifully wicked tale of privilege and desire” to unfold.

Oh, and best of all, it stars everybody’s Aussie boy crush, Jacob Elordi.

Here’s what we know about Saltburn thus far…

What is Saltburn about?

The official synopsis describes Saltburn as being set in the mid-noughties, and is described as: “A college student, Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan), develops an infatuation with a charismatic classmate, Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.”

Quick is believed to be struggling to find his place at Oxford University, where the film is set, and is drawn by the charming and aristocratic nature of Catton (can we blame him?).

Just from that small but significant detail, there’s no doubt this will be a drama/thriller of sorts, and one that will keep viewers on their edge of their seats as Quick navigates his brooding romance in a world he clearly does not belong to.

“Home doesn’t meet the same for me as it does for you, Felix.”

Who is starring in Saltburn?

Saltburn features quite the lineup of stars, in fact. Joining Elordi (Euphoria) and BAFTA-winning Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin)—who have since become the best of mates, as shown by their bromance of sorts training together and attending NBA games together— will be the extraordinary talents in Richard E. Grant, Rosamund Pike and Carey Mulligan. Also starring is Lolly Adefope, Archie Madekwe and Alison Oliver.

Margot Robbie and husband Tom Ackerly will also serves as producers through their company, LuckyChap Entertainment.

What is the fuss over its soundtrack?

So rumour has it that one of the many reasons Saltburn has been selected to open the BFI London Film Festival in October is thanks to its theatrical soundtrack made up of mid-2000s “pop bangers” that we’re all bound to know (and love).

“Emerald Fennell returns with an expertly crafted and exhilarating thrill ride of a film that showcases an enormous depth of U.K. talents in front of and behind the camera. With its exceptional performances, delicious plot twists and a soundtrack of early 21st century pop bangers; this hugely ambitious film immediately stole our hearts,” says BFI London Film Festival director, Kristy Matheson.
