How to get Josh Heuston’s messy, cover-ready curls
Iconic Australian hair stylist Kevin Murphy shares his kit essentials

SHADOWED BY the autumn sun on a Sydney rooftop, Josh Heuston truly looks the part of a film star. He’s charming and charismatic but down to earth, as he switches between a strong stare and a cheeky squint that lets his personality slip through. The actor, fitted out in Louis Vuitton streetwear, wears his dark waves swept back as ringlets fall across his forehead. It’s a formula for effortless but elevated grooming everyone can master.
Below, hair stylist Kevin Murphy breaks down how to recreate the actor’s messy curls with grooming essentials from the repairing and frizz-taming SMOOTH.AGAIN collection.
Kevin Murphy’s wavy hair kit

Detox shampoo: KEVIN.MURPHY Maxi Wash
Starting with fresh hair, Murphy prepped Josh Heuston’s hair with a detoxifying shampoo. “MAXI.WASH is powerful enough to slough away debris and purify the hair, while removing build up on the scalp with AHAs from fruit extracts,” the hairstylist explains.

Repairing treatment: KEVIN.MURPHY RE.STORE
“RE.STORE is a non foaming cleansing crème treatment formulated to act like a crème cleanser would in your skincare routine,” says Murphy. Applied in place of a shampoo and conditioner once a week, this treatment strengthens and smooths frizz-prone hair.

Thickening spray: KEVIN.MURPHY THICK.AGAIN
To support thick and healthy hair, Murphy spritzed this thickening mist into Heuston’s hair. “THICK.AGAIN delivers thicker fuller looking hair to help combat thinning hair and assist in scalp health,” he says. The hairstylist accredits the spray’s hair plumping and scalp-stimulating benefits to a “powerhouse of strengthening ingredients,” featuring peptide technology and nettle extract.

Anti-frizz treatment: KEVIN.MURPHY SMOOTH.AGAIN
“SMOOTH.AGAIN is our hard-working, leave-in smoothing treatment that also delivers all the benefits of a styling product. It’s the ultimate for perfectly imperfect natural looking hair,” says Murphy, who recommends applying the cream to towel dried hair for frizz free curls and a hydrated, curly look.

Firm hair gel: KEVIN.MURPHY SUPER.GOO
For the finishing touch on Heuston’s curls, “I used a small amount of SUPER.GOO on dry hair to give extra definition to the ends of the curls with added control,” explains Murphy. “I wanted something that provided a thick, modern feel and strong hold yet moveable texture – and without dryness or a crispy crunch.”
