Sources say the pair had lamb for their main

FORMER CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER Justin Trudeau and pop star Katy Perry were recently spotted having dinner together in Montreal after her concert in the Québec city. It could, you know, mean nothing. But history and the laws of attraction, when it comes to mid-looking, powerful men and glamorous women, say otherwise.
Le Violon, a neo-brasserie joint that boasts one Michelin star and advises “serves great cocktails” on Google, was the pair’s choice of venue.
Samantha Jin, a communications consultant at the restaurant, told the Associated Press that the former world leader and singer dined for two hours on Monday evening, undisturbed by staff or other patrons. “We kind of got the vibe that they were a little more chill,” said Jin. Perry and Trudeau’s security detail watched on from the bar.
The meet-up was first reported by celebrity gossip title TMZ, posting a video of the pair in animated conversation.
Jin added that there were “no visual signs of PDA or anything.”
It’s an intimate setting, for sure. One we root for Perry, who recently split with her long-time fiancé, actor Orlando Bloom. Trudeau’s also no stranger to the single life, having separated from his wife, Sophie Grégoire, in 2023.
Bloom has gone on to have dating rumours of his own while attending the Bezos-Sanchez Venice wedding bonanza in June, schmoozing with Kim Kardashian in nothing but itty-bitty activewear shorts.
History’s mid-looking men and glamorous women
In saying that, the possibility that Perry is dating a world leader offers a plethora of we are so back material.
After retiring from modelling in 1997 to focus on her music career, the Italian supermodel Carla Bruni started dating then-French president, and then-recently divorced, Nicolas Sarkozy in November 2007 after meeting at a dinner party. They would marry in February 2008.
In another case – albeit less we are so back, but rather I’m not going back – Grace Kelly stepped away from acting after marrying Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956. Sixty-two years later, Megan Markle had a similar fate.
Maybe the appeal of going out with a public servant is the ability to step into another area of public life to devote herself to. That, or with his glamorous wife in hand, men are boring clichés. President John F. Kennedy is in the latter then, who was married to Jackie Kennedy, while having an alleged affair with Marilyn Monroe.
Again, this could all mean nothing for the case of Perry and Trudeau. How funny it would seem, though, if this dinner had taken place before Trudeau’s resignation and if Perry had split earlier, for this California Girl to become the Canadian First Lady.
Perhaps, to continue his diplomatic duties and public service, Trudeau wanted to thank Perry for the economic boost her concerts provided, in between their tuna and beef tartare appetisers and lamb for main.
