Machine Gun Kelly embraces monochrome dressing
The rapper must've had his colours done, because this stone grey Gucci look is working on the true summer

MACHINE GUN KELLY just caught the monochrome bug. The (northern) summer style trend seen throughout the Cannes Film Festival – hi, Jeremy Strong – earlier in May has now made its way into an unlikely wardrobe. ‘Unlikely’ in the way that MGK isn’t who I think of amongst the entertainment industry’s practitioners of minimalism.
Dressing in a full monochromatic look is a style move above, say, what the Kardashians, with their narrow palette of nude, built their multi-billion-dollar empire on. Instead, like what we saw with Strong, monochrome requires paying close attention to what colours and shades work for you specifically. Consulting Esquire‘s resident colour theorist, Arielle Katos, Strong’s soft autumn suits his earthy, muted wardrobe. As for MGK, the ‘Bloody Valentine’ rapper is a true summer.

So if you happen to be in the same colour family as MGK, this stone grey ensemble from Gucci’s autumn/winter 2025 collection is in your wheelhouse. Hitting the New York City sidewalk, the ‘fits cool tone smoothly bounces off MGK’s bluer undertones. Soft and muted, the colour also appears to change under sunlight, transforming into a powdery lilac, which also works on a true summer.

Designed by former Gucci creative director Sabato De Sarno in one of his last collections for the Italian brand, the look was his standard minimalist fare of a solid shade paired with clean, flowing lines. But MGK gave the runway look his spin with the industrial D-ring belt and cat-eye shades – the metal and black accents he’s known for. Knowing what colours work for you is one thing, but knowing how to make a runway look yours is another, if not more advanced.
