Streaming March
Spaceman | Netflix

AND JUST LIKE THAT, summer is coming to an end. There’s still plenty of heat to go around, but days that offer the requisite weather for an afternoon by the beach are threatening to become less frequent. On the upside, spending the evening bingeing the latest hit shows and films is becoming more appealing. And that appeal will only grow as we head into the cooler part of the year. Luckily, the months ahead are going to be huge for streaming, with March at the forefront.

There really will be something for everyone on streaming platforms in March, but that’s part of the problem. The big hitters like Netflix, Disney+ and Stan are so packed with content that it makes it difficult to discern what’s worth your time—especially when you’re prone to indecision and are paying for the luxury of choice.

Not to worry though, Esquire has you covered. Featuring everything from critically acclaimed blockbusters finally making their digital debuts to the premiere of long-awaited original series’, we’ve rounded up all the very best films and shows coming to streaming platforms in March 2024.

What’s new on Netflix in March?

March Netflix Highlight – Spaceman

Adam Sandler’s stock has been rising since he started making serious movies and Netflix have been some of his biggest benefactors, previously working with the actor on the Netflix original Hustle. Spaceman represents his latest attempt to break out of the comedian mould. Sandler stars as Jakub Procházka, who was abandoned as a child and raised by his grandparents in the Czech countryside. In adulthood, Jakub plies his trade as a scientist and dreams of becoming the Czech Republic’s first astronaut.

Elsewhere, March will be the month of the blockbusters on Netflix, with high-grossing films like SpiderMan: No Way Home and Django Unchained reaching the platform. Guy Ritchie’s hotly anticipated The Gentlemen also premieres next month. And a battle between tennis’ old guard and next generation will come to a head when Rafael Nadal faces Carlos Alcaraz in what is being labelled as The Netflix Slam.

What’s new on Stan in March?

March Stan Highlight – Population 11

Outback Australia is getting the spotlight on Stan in March. First of all, Population 11 is one of Stan’s most highly anticipated original series’ ever—and we don’t say that lightly. From the director of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and starring Ben Feldman, Population 11 is a genre bending comedy-crime-mystery-thriller about a suburban bank teller who ventures into the Outback to visit his father, who has long since vanished.

Also on Stan, Jessica Mauboy is back with Windcatcher, her first film since The Sapphires in 2012. Windcatcher is a story about overcoming adversity; according to Stan, the film is “a heart-warming tale of a young Aboriginal boy growing up in regional Australia”.

What’s new on Binge in March?

March Binge Highlight – Oppenheimer

Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster Oppenheimer sparsely needs an introduction. Seriously, if you haven’t heard about this film, which is the run-away favourite to win the Oscar for Best Picture, please direct us to the rock you’ve been calling home. Cillian Murphy plays the brilliant yet morally complex physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer. A biopic of a complicated, multifaceted figure, the film showcases Oppenheimer’s role in creating the atomic bomb, and later, his inability to cope with the consequences.

While Oppenheimer finally coming to streaming is the most obvious headliner, it’s not all that’s coming to Binge in March. Keep an eye out for The Regime, starring Kate Winslet as the tyrannical leader of an unravelling dictatorship, and High Country, a mystery thriller about a detective dispatched to Victoria’s vast countryside to solve a case of five missing persons.

What’s new on Apple TV+ in March?

March Apple TV+ Highlight – Napoleon

Ridley Scott’s Napoleon chronicles the life and times of one of the most influential figures of modern history. Beginning early in the Frenchman’s military career, the film follows Napoleon’s rise to Emperor and eventual fall, as well as his incendiary relationship with Empress Josephine. Joaquin Phoenix turns in a memorable performance as the titular character, as does Vanessa Kirby as his wife. While Napoleon wasn’t too well received upon release, it has still managed to rack up three Oscar nominations, which at least warrants a watch.
