Only Murders in the Building

‘IT’S OPENING NIGHT and a big star drops dead on stage’… but who killed Ben Glenroy? That’s the first of many clues—and questions—to arise surrounding the third season of Only Murders in the Building, the wildly popular whodunnit which will make its long-awaited return to Disney+ streaming this month.

Wannabe detectives and mystery fans alike will be pleased to learn that the ten episode season 3, which sees the return of its affable stars in Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, is promising more thrills, more spills and the twists and turns that viewers evidently can’t get enough of, all with the comedic punch that we know veterans Martin and Short will deliver on.

Here’s what we know ahead of its Season 3 release date. *Spoilers ahead*

What will Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building be about?

So while details are scarce, what we do know is that season 3 will be told from the timelines of at least two different characters, and will likely follow the untimely death of Ben Glenroy (played by none other than Paul Rudd), who we meet briefly in the final moments of season two. The use of ‘flashbacks’ has been a common storytelling technique in previous seasons, so we suspect flashbacks will allow the viewers to see the events the led to the murder of Glenroy.

We also know that Charles (Martin) has gone back to star in a reboot of Brazzos; Oliver (Short) is back on Broadway in a director’s role; and Mabel is busy working on her apartment renovation with Alice (Cara Delevingne) by her side.

Co-showrunner John Hoffman also told Variety that, in the past two seasons, we were given a murder mystery as well as a look into the life of a different member of the trio. “Season three continues with that tradition and sees Oliver’s life come into the spotlight.”

Who is starring in Only Murders in the Building Season 3?

Part of the allure of the past two seasons of Only Murders in the Building has been its star-studded cast, be it permanent or cameo roles—from Sting and Cara Delevingne to Tina Fey and Amy Schemer. Yet, somehow, the coming season of Only Murders in the Building looks to be the best cast announcement yet.

Joining the Martin, Short and Gomez trio —among some other returning cast members like Fey, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Jane Lynch, Ryan Broussard and Michael Cyril—will be Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep, Jesse Williams, Ashley Park and even Matthew Broderick, who is set to make an appearance in an undisclosed role.

When will Only Murders in the Building be released?

Only Murders in the Building season three premieres on Disney+ on August 8 with two episodes, followed by a new episode weekly until the October 3 finale.
