THE 97TH ACADEMY Awards are a week away (!), and the Screen Actors Guild (or SAG) Awards is the last of the last stop before the big ticket event. Happening Monday, Sydney time, the ceremony that celebrates film and primetime television performances is taking place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Actress Kristin Bell will play host for the evening; Bell is also nominated in the Female Actor in a Comedy Series category for her role in Netlfix’s Nobody Wants This.

What makes the SAG Awards a rarity in the awards race is that it’s the only accolade where actors who are members of the Guild can nominate and celebrate one another. You’d remember the SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023 that brought film and TV productions to a halt over the unregulated use of AI, an issue that’s permeated major frontrunners this awards season (namely The Brutalist and Emilia Perez). On the men’s aisle for Best Actor, Adrien Brody seems to be the likely winner for his role in the epic The Brutalist, while for Best Actress, Demi Moore (The Substance) and Mikey Madison (Anora) are battling it out. Madison took home the award at Independent Spirit Awards over the weekend.
