EACH WEEK, we’ll be taking a look at the hottest news, developments and rare model sightings in the watch world — what’s ticking, what’s trending and what’s causing jaws in various corners of the watch internet to drop. We’ll highlight new brand releases, celebrity watch spots and general news for all you horologically-minded enthusiasts.
This week, an iconic timepiece makes its return at TAG Heuer — the Carrera Skipper. Born in the late ’60s, the Skipper made its name at sea, created in limited quantities to commemorate the winning ‘Intrepid’ boat from the 1967 America’s Cup. Today, the Skipper makes its triumphant return in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Carrera — one of the most iconic and significant timepieces of all time.
Elsewhere, footballing superstar Cristiano Ronaldo makes headlines as the newest investor of luxury watch reseller, Chrono24 (and surpasses the billion-dollar valuation in the process), and Ed Sheeran dishes out free pizza in Pittsburgh wearing a million dollar Rolex.

Cristiano Ronaldo invests in luxury watch reseller Chrono24
We all know that the watch world is incredibly lucrative, and no more so than the secondary resell market. Capitalising on this market since 2003, Chrono24 has been the go-to for those looking to buy or sell a luxury timepiece, with brands including Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and more. Now, Al Nassr striker Cristiano Ronaldo, through his CR7 SA investment vehicle, has joined shareholders including Algae Ventures, the investment company of the world’s richest man, Bernard Arnault, General Atlantic, Insight Partners and Sprints Capital as an investor of Chrono24. While the value of his investment in Chrono24 has not been disclosed, as it stands, Chrono24 has surpassed the billion dollar valuation with news of Ronaldo’s buy-in.

TAG Heuer bring back the iconic Carrera Skipper
It’s been a massive year for TAG Heuer, who this year celebrates 60 years of the iconic Carrera. While the luxury Swiss watchmaker have since unveiled a host of new Carrera timepieces to mark the milestone anniversary, this week they continue on with the celebrations by unveiling a new-look Carrera Skipper. Paying homage to the original Heuer Skipper of 1968, the Skipper makes a very welcomed return, 40 years since it was discontinued. Seamlessly bringing the gap between its original form and modernity, we’re loving the refreshed Skipper for its new features, like the glass box design with a bezel-less case, the unique ocean-inspired colours that clearly tie back to the 1968 Heuer Skipper and the historic ‘Intrepid’ America’s Cup victory, and just its overall design and how easy-wearing this timepiece is. Ed Sheeran slings free pizza to Pittsburgh locals wearing a million dollar vintage Rolex
Before playing a sold-out concert in Pittsburgh this week, pop sensation Ed Sheeran wanted to give back to the Pittsburghese by handing out 50 free pizzas and 50 sets of tickets at a local pizzeria in Crafton, Caliente Pizza. But here’s the kicker: actually getting his hands dirty and making some of the pizzas himself, Sheeran was seen casually wearing a vintage Rolex Daytona worth well over $1 million. It’s well reported that Sheeran is an avid watch collector, but wearing a Rolex Daytona of the Paul Newman era whilst flicking around flour, sauce and dough is wild. While we’re unsure what exact model he’s wearing, it’s likely the Daytona ref. 6263 (aka, one of the holy grails of the watch world). You keeping doing you, Ed.

Retired tennis great Roger Federer shows off new Rolex timepiece
Roger Federer made his return to Wimbledon this week, but not as a player but as a spectator (ah, so he is mortal, after all!). Earning himself a five-minute standing ovation as he entered the arena on the second day of the tournament, the tennis legend was dressed to the nines in a custom Tom Ford suit and, excitingly, wearing a brand new Rolex timepiece. The Rolex testimonee is one of few individuals privy to an assortment of new, vintage and unreleased Rolex watches, like the brand-new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller pictured to your left, a model that was only released this year at Watches & Wonders. Bravo, Roger.
