DIOR MEN’S is always one of the most anticipated shows on the fashion calendar, due in no small part to the ingenuity of creative director Kim Jones, and his ability to turn whimsical influences and historical references into the most covetable items of contemporary clothing. But also, both Jones and the house of Dior know how to draw a star-studded crowd; with Robert Pattinson as an ambassador and a front row that’s consistently packed with the world’s coolest and most relevant people, the brand’s menswear shows are spectacles you don’t want to miss.
This season, Dior has released a small teaser trailer on its YouTube channel hinting at the collection’s direction. Narrated by Kim Jones, it features black and white archival footage of the revered Soviet ballerina and choreographer Rudolf Nureyev.
“Nureyev is the ballet dancer that every ballet dancer would want to be. He loved luxury, he understood the finer things in life, and quality and craftsmanship,” explains Jones as the video plays. “The starting point of the collection was looking at Dior and ballet, and then my family’s relationship with ballet, because my uncle was a ballet dancer and then became a photographer. And his relationship with Rudolf Nureyev.”
While we’ll have to wait and watch the show to learn more about the relationship between Jones’ uncle and Nureyev, who is regarded by some as the greatest male ballet dancer of his generation (he passed away in 1993), it appears that Jones’ autumn/winter 2024 collection for Dior Men will celebrate the poise and elegance of all things dance. Tune in at the livestream below this evening to see the theatre of it all unfold.
