Everything you need to know about the potential 'Suits' reboot
The popular Netflix legal drama is having a streaming renaissance, but is that enough to warrant a reboot?
HAVE YOU WATCHED Suits? We’re sure you have, and if not, you’re likely one of many currently binge-watching the glossy legal drama which ran from 2011 until 2019. Finding its second life on Netflix, the show is currently breaking all sorts of streaming records, with 18 billion minutes of Suits viewed on Netflix across the US in July alone.
So why the second wind?
Perhaps it’s got something to do with Harvey Spector (Gabriel Macht)’s impeccable style, and a man with a penchant for cheesy lines like: “That’s the difference between you and me. You wanna lose small, I wanna win big,” or, “When you’re backed against the wall, break the goddamn thing down.”
Or maybe it’s the thrill of the whole Mike Ross (Patrick J Adams) “drama”—the fraud/genius who managed to land a job as a lawyer at one of America’s top law firms, Pearson Hardman (later Pearson Specter Litt). Or maybe it’s Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman)’s quips in between belittling his associates and fighting for Harvey’s attention.
Whatever the reason that you watch Suits, the question that remains is: will there be a reboot; will there be a Season 10? Let’s find out.
What is Suits about?
Suits is a swaggy legal drama that predominantly centres around the relationship between Mike Ross and Harvey Spector. You will learn early on that Mike is a self-professed genius who is able to use his photographic memory to convince Harvey, one of New York City’s finest attorneys at a top-tier law firm, to hire him, despite never having attended college as a law student.
The series unravels from here, as Harvey takes Mike under his wing but fights to protect his secret over many seasons…
Will there be a Suits reboot?
Unfortunately, for now, the answer to your burning question is no. Taking to Twitter (X) recently, Suits showrunner Aaron Korsch confirmed that a Season 10 of the series is not currently in the works.
“Let me say right off that there is no #Suits reboot or anything in the works,” Korsch tweeted. “Strike would have to end, some network or streamer would have to reach out and then we would have to collectively want to. Which is no small thing…”
However, Suits executive producer Gene Klein told TV Line that, “In this era of reboots and reunions and all this other stuff, that I’m expecting a call at some point [from Aaron Korsch]. But so far, nothing that I’m aware of.”
The WGA strike also means that no new ideas have been possible, and that rallying together the original cast would be no small feat.
“It was a complicated dance keeping everybody involved, getting all the actors’ deals done and keeping them involved through the end of the show,” he said. “I’d be surprised if we could thread that needle for a reunion, but I’d also be delighted if that happened because [when] you do a show for that long, everybody becomes such a good friend.”
But never say never, right?
Will there be any Suits spinoffs?
Sure, if a reboot can’t happen right now, what about a Suits spinoff? Well, there was a spinoff series back in 2019, Pearson, a standalone series that followed the life of Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) and was set in the same world and timeline as Suits. Sadly, Pearson was cancelled after just one season due to poor ratings.
While it has been almost five years since both Suits and Pearson series concluded, perhaps now could be a good time to revisit the idea of a spinoff series, such as one that focuses solely on Mike and Harvey, or even Louis Litt. Klein has previously referenced discussions around the possibility of character explorations, too.
“There were lesser characters who [Aaron] had spinoff ideas for, ideas that would be prequels where it’d be a younger version of, like, an ancillary character,” he told TVLine. “Really interesting, fun ideas that we never took anywhere.”
“There were numerous ideas for spinoffs that we mostly just sort of fantasized about,” Klein added. “Like, Aaron and I would sit around and go, ‘What about this? What about that?'”
