SWATCH HAS BEEN AT the forefront of timepiece personalization for a while. Back in 2017, the Swiss watch group introduced Swatch x You, an online platform that allowed customers to design their own custom watches. Using the New Gent Ø 41MM model as a canvas, you could pick from an array of paintings and mechanisms. Of course, it only allowed you to play within the confines of its pre-selected designs – but it was a cool innovation, nonetheless.

Now the company – which also houses the likes of Blancpain, Omega, and Tissot – is turning to artificial intelligence to take things to the next level. According to a financial update from Swatch Group, first reported by Watch Pro, the company plans to introduce revolutionary customisation tech, powered by artificial intelligence.

“This summer, Swatch will launch the ultimate in personalization as a world first,” the company said, in reference to its new AI-DADA technology. Using the service, customers will be able to create their own Swatch watch based on a database of designs from the past 40 years.

What those designs will be, we do not know. Naturally, fans are crossing their fingers that a customizable MoonSwatch might be on the menu. The cult collaboration – which combines Swatch’s materials and tech with Omega’s classic Speedmaster Moonwatch framework – arrived to much fanfare in 2022 with eleven different colourways. We now have 30 unique designs in the range, and each new release whips up a new wave of excitement.

While we can’t imagine that Swatch will open the floodgates when it comes to the MoonSwatch’s designs, it’s safe to say that the option would be incredibly popular. It’s still the watch world’s biggest success story across the past few years, one that shook up the industry and our preconceived notions of luxury horology. It was a future-facing experiment from Swatch, and AI-DADA is very much a futuristic service. It just makes sense.

Needless to say, we’ll keep you updated on the project – and on the next round of MoonSwatches, naturally.
