ORDER’S UP! Season one of smash-hit The Bear unveiled the often hidden reality of a busy kitchen — it’s loud, it’s gritty and it’s emotional — and season two of the FX drama is set to turn up the heat even further.

“We need like a reset,” exclaims Jeremy Allen White’s Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in the season two trailer (below).

That’s right, if you’re a fan of the show — how can you not be? — you’ll remember that at the conclusion of The Bear Season One, Carmy made the difficult decision to close The Original Beef (a family-run, neighbourhood-loved sandwich shop) in order to make way for a new and improved cooking venture: “The Bear”.

What makes The Bear such a gripping comedy/drama is its realistic portrayal of the chaos that comes with working in the food industry. It’s also a human story about someone dealing with the ups and downs of life, including the struggles of money and the grief of loss. It begs the question: Will Carmy and his team come out on top this new season, or will they face the same challenges as season one?

“It has to show how hard [the food industry] is. Not only from a skill level. But—it’s a hard business, man,” says Christopher Storer, creator of The Bear, in a story via Esquire (US).

“There’s something about restaurants that seems untenable from the jump. Even when they’re busy, I can’t help but think, ‘This seems impossible. This just seems like at any minute this is going to collapse.'”

Here’s what we know about The Bear Season Two.

When will The Bear Season 2 come out?

Soon – June 22, 2023.

Fans of the series will be delighted to know that, while Season One aired a total of eight episodes, the highly anticipated second season will up the ante, adding two more episodes to total a 10-episode season.

What do we know so far?

The first full-length trailer for The Bear Season Two dropped earlier this year, giving viewers an insight into where Carmy is at with his life and what his crew is up to as they work towards opening a new restaurant — although not without its problems and challenges.

“I’m trying to start from a place of positivity,” Carmy says.

A press release for the new season also reads, “As they strip the restaurant down to its bones, the crew undertakes transformational journeys of their own, each forced to confront the past and reckon with who they want to be in the future.”

We also know that, at the conclusion of season one, Carmy read his brother Mikey’s suicide note (played by Jon Bernthal), giving his younger brother his blessing to take over the family business. Mikey leaves his money-struggling brother with enough money to pay off debts and open a new restaurant, as well as his secret ‘Family Meal Spaghetti’ recipe that Carmy could never replicate before.

Who’s cast in The Bear Season 2?

Spoiler alert: there’s a new chef in town. Will Poulter is swapping Marvel supersuits for aprons as he joins the cast as a British-Dutch pastry chef. Rather fancy, right? He also has enviously tousled hair and a swathe of edgy Scandi tattoos. Playing Luca, Poulter appears in episode four — which has since dropped in the U.S. — as a mentor for Marcus (Lionel Boyce) who flies over to Copenhagen in hopes of mastering his pâtissier craft as The Beef transforms to fine diner, The Bear. While making a banger of a chocolate cake in season one, Marcus is understandably nervous for his first real culinary apprenticeship. But a patient and open-minded Luca offers some thoughtful advice while the pair perfect some pretty eccentric desserts, such as shiso gelee (which FYI is a rich and nutty Japanese tofu terrine).

“Most of the incredible things that I’ve eaten, haven’t been because the skill level’s exceptionally high, or there’s loads of mad, fancy techniques, it’s because it’s been really inspired,” he says. “You can spend all the time in the world in here, but if you don’t spend enough time out there…”

Aside from Poulter and Boyce, the stellar cast you know and love from the first season of The Bear have also all returned for a second season. Led by Golden Globe award-winning Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Liza ColĂłn-Zayas, Edwin Lee Gibson, Matty Matheson, and Oliver Platt have also reprised their roles for season two.

Molly Gordon also joins the season two cast in a recurring role, and the great Bob Odenkirk appears in a guest role.

Where can I watch The Bear Season 2?

In Australia, The Bear Season Two will be available to watch on Disney+ on July 19. And if season one was anything to go by, season two will be one hell of a ride.
