Dwayne Johnson matches his polo to his favourite pink Rolex
Continuing on his film festival campaign, 'The Smashing Machine' actor pulled out one of his favourite timepieces to match his dusty pink polo

AFTER THAT BRIEF commercial break during the Venice Film Festival, where he wore two itty-bitty (for scale, on him) Chopard Alpine Eagle 41s, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is back to his usual watch rotation.
Continuing his campaign for that Oscar, the 53-year-old actor arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival this week to promote his upcoming film, The Smashing Machine. In Benny Safdie’s solo directing debut, the A24-produced flick stars Johnson as Mark ‘The Smashing Machine’ Kerr, an American former wrestler and mixed martial artist. The film takes place in the year 2000, at the height of Kerr’s career in the UFC. While in Venice, Johnson reportedly endured the 15-minute standing ovation through “uncontrollable sobs”.
Anyway, Johnson is back in his usual groove in the Canadian city. Walking past barricades of screaming fans, a Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 126711CHNR, in Oystersteel and Everose gold, was clearly visible on his wrist. The dual-tones feature along the Oyster bracelet and bezel. In terms of his fit, the Everose pops out instantly with the help of Johnson’s dusty pink knit polo, its buttons left open for all but one.
Certified watch guy
Over the years, Johnson has proven his watch guy bona fides. He’s been partial to the gadgetry of TAG Heuer and Panerai for sporty outings; IWC and, more recently, Chopard for occasions that call for a suit and tie. The GMT-Master II, on the other hand, has been a high-profile collectible for other Hollywood watch collectors, among them Daniel Craig to Orlando Bloom. While other collectors have conservatively stuck to the red-and-blue ‘Pepsi’ bezel, Johnson’s grey-and-pink is an example of a true watch guy.
Introduced in the 1950s for Pan Am pilots, the GMT-Master II’s price tag today of $30,800 is hardly the type of timepiece you’d spot on air crew. But for someone like Johnson, whose flight schedule has spanned the globe on his movie campaign, it seems appropriate. (The Black Adam actor has also worn the watch several times before, so we guess he’s amortised the watch, too.)
