Bad Bunny will headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show

ANNOUNCED BY THE NFL, three-time Grammy-winning Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl halftime show in February 2026.

“What I’m feeling is beyond myself,” said Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Buns) in a statement. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown . . . this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”

The sport’s biggest night is consistently the most-watched TV program in the United States, with this year’s halftime show by Kendrick Lamar drawing a crowd of 130 million viewers. Super Bowl LX will take place on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara in northern California, near San Francisco.

The cultural significance of Bad Bunny’s halftime show

The Latin trap and reggaeton musician is fresh off a historic Puerto Rico residency, drawing a crowd of more than 500,000 fans. Bad Bunny is leading all nominees at the Latin Grammys, which will take place in November.

The significance of a Latin musician getting the coveted spot of the sport’s biggest night cannot be understated. The announcement comes amid rising protests in Los Angeles against President Donald Trump’s deployment of 2000 National Guard troops in the city in June, as well as continuing raids made by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In an interview with i-D magazine, Bad Bunny said he didn’t include the mainland US as part of his latest tour, fearing fans would be targeted by ICE agents.

The news also puts to rest the months-long speculation that Taylor Swift would be headlining the Super Bowl next year. Considering her recent engagement with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in August, and her 21-month Eras Tour grossing a record USD $2 billion in ticket sales, it would’ve been a no-brainer. (And no doubt swelling the anticipation of her next original studio album, The Last Showgirl.)

Yes, Bad Bunny guest appeared during Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s co-headline halftime show in 2020. The estimated viewers that year was 103 to 104 million.
