The best series and films to stream on Halloween
Netflix

Monster: The Ed Gein Story
The latest addition to the Monster series, which has previously focused on Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers, turns its attention to notorious serial killer Ed Gein. Charlie Hunnam takes on the role of the ‘Plainfield Butcher’, a Mid-West murderer who was active in the 1940s and ’50s.

Wednesday
Season two of Wednesday released its final episodes in September. In case you’d been saving the series for Halloween, now is the perfect time to tune in.

Nosferatu
Robert Eggers’ moody, sexually-charged take on the original tale of Nosferatu was a big success in 2024, earning four Oscar nominations. The hit film recently made its streaming debut, attracting swaths of new fans.

Talk To Me
Throw some Australian cinema into your Halloween binge with Talk To Me. It’s the film that launched the directorial careers of the Philippou brothers and it has already earned a cult following.

The Fall of the House of Usher
Created by master of horror Mike Flanagan, The Fall of the House of Usher follows a wealthy family who have built a pharmaceutical empire. Great news for all members of the family! That is, until the heirs to the dynasty suddenly start dying.
Disney+

Alien: Earth
The most recent addition to the Alien franchise premiered back in August to a steady stream of acclaim. If you’re planning on revisiting all things Alien this Halloween, Alien: Earth, which is a prequel, is a good place to start.

Hocus Pocus
Not everything needs to be spine-tingling, goosebump-inducing, hiding-behind-your-couch scary. Sometimes, a family-friendly classic is all you need for the perfect Halloween.

The Night House
The Night House flew under the radar when it released back in 2021, but it has quietly earned some devout fans. It’s the usual ‘protagonist moves into a mysterious house and discovers a haunting supernatural presence’ trope, but that’s exactly what you’re looking for on Halloween, right?
HBO Max

It: Welcome to Derry
Premiering on October 26th, It: Welcome to Derry takes place in 1962, 27 years before the recent film duology. It starts when the Hanlon family move to the sleepy Maine town of Derry, just as the world’s most murderous clown starts killing again. Bill Skarsgaard reprises his role, and as you’d expect, a group of children must evade his attempts to consume them.

Sinners
The biggest horror film of the year is already available to stream. Sinners is a revelation. If you missed it in cinemas, it’s not too late to jump on the hype train before it leaves town.

The Exorcist
A classic, plain and simple. The Exorcist simply exudes Halloween vibes.
Amazon Prime

The Shining
“Here’s Johnny!!!” is an all-time quote, and The Shining is why. Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel is a classic, and one of the most critically and commercially successful horror films of all time.

The Monkey
Osgood Perkins followed up his successful 2024 film Longlegs with The Monkey, which has been less successful. Still, as a popular 2025 film about a killer toy monkey that has only just come to streaming, it’s worth a watch.

A Haunting in Venice
The third instalment in Kenneth Branagh’s Poirot series is easily the spookiest. While the first two films bring to life a pair of Agatha Christie’s more well-known murder mystery novels (Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile), A Haunting in Venice adapts a far lesser-known book. Basically, Poirot attends a seance at a haunted Palazzo in Venice. When one of the guests is murdered, it’s up to the detective to… yeah, you get where this is going.
Stan

From
Season four of From is in production. Until it releases, there’s still time for a rewatch. Halloween presents the perfect opportunity.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
The season finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, has now aired. So, if you were waiting for every episode to release before watching, now’s the time. While The Walking Dead doesn’t scream Halloween, zombies are an undeniable staple of the season.

Scream
Scream is the ultimate Halloween classic. If you haven’t already seen it, what are you doing? And if you have, well, it’s probably time for a rewatch.
