MELBOURNE’S MOST STYLISH week of the year reached its sparkling crescendo last Thursday when The Diamond Drop, presented by 1800 Tequila, took over Emporium Melbourne during Melbourne Fashion Week. Hosted by stylist and local personality Elliott Garnaut, the event turned Little Bourke Street into a scene of shimmering anticipation, with hundreds queuing for a chance to unearth the coveted $15,000 diamond.

While the crowd waited to see who the lucky winner might be, delicious Palomas crafted with 1800 Blanco, poured into miniature 1800 bottles, were available to the crowd; a clever, chic twist that highlighted the intersection of craftsmanship, ingenuity and integrity shared by 1800 Tequila and Melbourne Fashion Week, along with innate good taste.

More than 20 prizes were awarded over the evening, from Emporium vouchers to bottles of 1800 Cristalino Tequila, but it was contestant number 39, a 20-year-old visitor from Darwin in town to see her grandfather, who walked away with the grand prize. Her discovery capped off a night that perfectly captured the collision of luxury, playfulness and style that defines modern Melbourne.

Just steps away, the Little Bourke Street Runway unfolded under the city’s glowing skyline, presented by Emporium Melbourne. Styled by Karinda Mutabazi, the open-air showcase brought together labels including Aje Studio, Calibre, Maje, Marimekko, MJ Bale, Oroton and Sandro. Models strode between the crowd and the city lights in refined tailoring, fluid silks and flashes of bold colour, an edit that reflected the sophistication and individuality of the precinct’s retailers.

Together, the two events formed the jewel in a stylish crown, fusing fashion, festivity and fine tequila into one glittering evening in the heart of Melbourne.
