IN AN unlikely pairing between one of the most expensive and super-rare high-performance car manufacturer Bugatti and legendary athletic brand Adidas, comes a new collab aimed at Bugatti lovers, die-hard Adidas football fans and members of the athletic brand’s web3 loyalty program.
Limited to just 99 pairs, the Adidas X Crazyfast Bugatti collection boots are based on Adidas’ football boots of the same name, which are famous for utilising the brand’s innovative Speedframe sole plate. Not unlike the pursuits of Bugatti’s hypercars, Adidas’ engineers developed this technology to create ‘the lightest possible structure, while also providing a rigid plate for rapid acceleration’. In addition, this beloved boot also benefits from Adidas’s ‘Aerocage’, an engineered lining designed to provide stability by hugging the mid-foot, and ‘Aeropacity Speedskin’, a breathable monomesh, which helps with speed. The boots have been given the French OEM’s treatment, with lashings of Bugatti Blue — the colour of Bugatti’s early Grand Prix cars — and a carbon fibre inlay that replicates the materials found in a Bugatti Chiron. Along the side of the boot reads, “Impossible is Nothing”, a nod to Adidas, Bugatti’s notion of “Create the Incomparable” and the insignia of Bugatti founder Ettore Bugatti.
Bugatti is a brand renowned for its innovations and engineering ingenuity,” said Wiebke Ståhl, Bugatti managing director. “Always inspired by the vision of it creates incomparable automotive masterpieces. We share this relentless drive for perfection with Adidas, who apply the same rigorous approach to their boots, with ever lighter and more effective designs. And in this collaboration, we celebrate this shared pioneering spirit in an authentic way, right down to the innovative method of releasing it to enthusiasts of both our brands.”
In the past few years, we’ve seen plenty of collaborations to hit the automotive fashion space, including Lamborghini x Supreme, Porsche x Aime Leon Dore, BMW x Kith and McLaren x Rhude, to name a few. However, this is the first time we’ve seen such a technical and sport-specific partnership drop. “X Crazyfast is meticulously crafted for speed and performance for a game that demands players move and react faster than ever,” says Nick Craggs, Adidas Football’s general manager and senior vice president. “By uniting these two iconic brands, we’ve once again pushed the boundaries of boot design to create something truly unique that both looks incredible and helps players at all levels to be their best.” It’s not expected that many of these pairs will ever hit the pitch, so at least the box itself has been engineered with carbon fibre so the boots look just as good stored in a collection.
After announcing it was ‘all in’ on web3, mostly as a way to encourage membership loyalty and engagement, Adidas has been strengthening its web3 and metaverse presence this year, and so this drop is no different. In order to snag a pair, you’ll need to join Adidas’ Collect Web 3 platform, and from there, join an auction that will run from 2am Australian Eastern Daylight Savings time for 72hrs only. Winners receive an exclusive digital shoebox which can be redeemed via adidas Collect.
