THE MIGHTY PEN is the centre of the Montblanc universe. Crafting the world’s finest writing instruments since 1906, Montblanc is also in the business of sparking imagination through the written word.
That’s exactly where the Meisterstück, the brand’s most iconic pen celebrating its centenary this year, take us: to the library. It’s the words inked on thousands of pages stored high up in the shelves where, they believe, our collective memories and histories are preserved; universes upon universes recorded. This ethos of craft and functionality that underpins the German pen-maker’s universe extends to its range of leather goods. This includes the Extreme 3.0 leather collection, which, while sounding tough, employs all of the desterous craftsmanship Montblanc is known and respected for.
Spanning backpacks, shoulder bags, wallets, and pouches, the Extreme 3.0 collection was designed to withstand the demands of moving through the modern world. The pieces are textured in Bauhaus-style geometric forms, and coloured in bold, contemporary hues that exist seamlessly in an urban architectural landscape. Innovation also takes centre stage. For instance, the M Lock 4810 buckle on the backpack is redeveloped in transparent Plexiglas to show off its inner mechanism. But at the centre of it all, the collection was thoughtfully designed to stylishly accompany the Meisterstück. Fitting companions for the discerning commuters.
For the September/October 2024 issue of Esquire, we imagined the Meisterstück and Extreme 3.0 pieces in situ, while flicking through pages where the ink of great stories was spilled. See the full photoshoot here.
