See the first trailer for Donald Glover's 'Mr and Mrs Smith' reboot

ARE YOU A FAN of the 2005 Hollywood hit Mr. & Mrs. Smith starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (subsequently branded ‘Brangelina’)? Well it’ll be music to your ears to learn that Amazon Prime Video is reviving the action-comedy, turning it into a series starring none other than rapper-turned-actor Donald Glover (Community; Atlanta; Solo). The streaming platform has just released their very swish and sexy first official trailer for the upcoming series, which will see Maya Erskine star alongside Glover. What will the new Mr. & Mrs. Smith series be about?

As per the film of the same name from 2005, Mr. & Mrs. Smith follows the lives of husband and wife John and Jane Smith who actually live separate lives as dangerous assassins. When the pair learn of each other’s true identities, this discovery leads to a deadly game as they couple is tasked with targeting each other. Beyond the theme of espionage and action, the series will follow the complicated romance between the couple.

The official film synopsis reads: “Meet the Smiths: Two strangers, John and Jane, who have given up their identities to be thrown together as partners — in espionage and in marriage. Matched by a mysterious agency, each episode follows them on a new mission and new milestone in their relationship. When the cracks begin to show through, they must fight to stay together. Because in this marriage, divorce is not an option.”

Who is starring in Mr. & Mrs. Smith?

In 2021, it was announced that Glover was to star in the series reboot. While Phoebe Waller-Bridge was originally set to star alongside Glover, she departed the project in September of the same year due to “creative differences.” Her replacement, Maya Erskine (Obi-Wan Kenobi), officially joined the series in April 2022.

It’s also reported that joining the lead actors will be Michaela Coel, Paul Dano, John Turturro, Parker Posey and Wagner Moura. Their roles are currently unknown.

Is there a trailer for Mr. & Mrs. Smith ?

Yes, and it’s pretty sexy. Prime Video shared a first look at the eight-episode series on January 12, which sees the titular pair go through couples counselling, keep up friendships and maintain the spark — all while trying to hide their secret identities as international super spies.

When will Mr. & Mrs. Smith be released?

The series was originally slated for a 2022 release date, but due to widely reported setbacks in production, and the ongoing nature of the writers and actors strikes which have now ceased, Prime Video has announced that all eight episodes will be available to watch on February 2, 2024.
