It's certified, Drake the bard is releasing a new album to go with his poetry book
Drake has enigmatically announced a new album 'For all the Dogs' to coincide with his life's greatest work — his poetry collection.
WHAT COMES first: the album or the memoir?
In Drake’s case, it’s the poetry collection. The Canadian rapper has added wordsmith to the resume with his debut book Titles Ruin Everything: A Stream of Consciousness. Co-authored with longtime collaborator and poetess Kenza Samir, who has contributed to Drake’s previous albums with songs such as “HYFR (Hell Ya Fucking Right),” “Emotionless” and “Jungle,” helped pen the 168-page collection of never-before-published poems on “fame, romance and relationships.”
While it’s unlikely to cop a Pulitzer — although, Drake claims Titles Ruin Everything: A Stream of Consciousness to be his life’s greatest work — expect his one-liners, quotes and futile observations to predictably take over the Instagrams of sadbois across the world. Publisher Phaidon has been teasing excerpts to Twitter, which read much like Drake’s catchy yet slightly ego-centric songs, with “I’m a terrible texter, but a great writer / Hate confrontation but a great fighter,” and “I am the soundtrack for lives that go on without me.” Yes, all very moving stuff according to Drake — or Aubrey Graham, as the book is published under (his real name).
“I don’t know if I have ever wanted people to buy or support something more in my life…our first book is available tmrw on @drakerelated and other select retailers,” the 36-year-old declared on Instagram, before making another announcement just hours later.
In classic Drake style, the rapper one-upped himself by revealing he was also working on a new album For All the Dogs to coincide with the new book. Plastered across newspaper ads in the Los Angeles Times, Houston Chronicle and New York Post, Drake promoted Titles Ruin Everything with a QR code linked to a website enigmatically reading: “I made an album to go with the book. They say they miss the old Drake girl don’t tempt me. FOR ALL THE DOGS.”
While no release date has been mentioned, the new record follows Honestly, Nevermind (2022) and Certified Lover Boy (2021), as well as his collaboration with 21 Savage last year, Her Loss.
Until we know more — and given it’s Drake, he’ll likely reveal it soon with much flashy grandeur — fans and pseudo-intellectuals can purchase his debut book via his merchandise site drakerelated.com and other select retailers.
