IT WAS ALWAYS going to be a presidential campaign like no other. With much of Gen Z now of voting age and a pair of caricatures for political candidates, the US presidential race has been ripe for meme-ing. Now, more fuel has been added to the meme-machine fire, with incumbent President Joe Biden announcing he won’t be running for re-election.

“It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as your President,” Biden said in a statement. “And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

The Democratic party will be fronting a new candidate for the election – which takes place in November – with sitting Vice President Kamala Harris the frontrunner, as Biden has officially endorsed her. But until then, the internet is taking a moment to chuckle
