The best new series and films coming to Disney+ in August

WITH THE RIGHTS to huge franchises like Star Wars, Marvel and Disney-Pixar, as well as FX originals, Disney+ consistently pumps out some of the most streamed new series and films. And after a quiet few months, the streamer is back with a huge month ahead.

But with so many new films, shows and documentaries arriving every day, choosing what to watch is its own challenge. That’s where we come in. To help you find what’s worth watching on Disney+ in August, we’ve rounded up the best new pieces of content coming to the streamer. Scroll on, and get ready to add to your watchlist.

Best new shows and movies on Disney+ Australia, August 2025

Alien: Earth

This time, the xenomorphs are a lot closer to home. Alien: Earth is a prequel series to the original Alien film. It kicks off with a mysterious space vessel crash landing on earth, and you probably don’t need us to tell you what’s on board. A group of soldiers is dispatched to handle it, including Wendy (Sydney Chandler), a hybrid human who has had her consciousness transferred into a synthetic body. Kirsh (Timothy Olyphant) is Wendy’s mentor, while the rest of the team is made up of humans and hybrids. As you’d expect, the mission probably isn’t going to go smoothly.

Eyes of Wakanda

Marvel’s sprawling cinematic universe continues to expand on the big and small screen. If the prospect of having to do more homework before seeing the next MCU film causes you to illicit a groan, the good news is that Eyes of Wakanda is an anthology series that takes place at different points in history, so it has only a small bearing on the future of the franchise. That said, we’re told the animated series will be more closely connect than other MCU cartoons. But that’s fine too, because a series about a group of Wakandan warriors who travel the world retrieving vibranium artifacts sounds promising.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox

Fuel your true crime obsession by revisiting one of the genre’s most high-profile cases, the murder trial of Amanda Knox. Most true crime buffs will already know every detail of Knox’s wrongful conviction and eventual acquittal, but The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox promises to breathe new life into its subject’s harrowing journey. For those unfamiliar: Knox, an American exchange student living in Italy, was convicted of murdering her roommate and sentenced to 26 years in prison, only to later be released after the real murderer was found.

Eenie Meanie

Samara Weaving plays a retired getaway driver known by the alias Eenie Meanie in this new heist thriller. After attempting to leave her criminal past behind, Eenie Meanie is pulled back in to the world of crime to save her ex-boyfriend’s life. Sounds like a fairly stock-standard heist/driving film to us, but we’ll be tuning in anyway.

Limitless: Live Better Now

We’re not sure that a guy as fit as Chris Hemsworth really needs to live better now, but that’s what he’ll be attempting to do in Limitless. The movie star will take on three challenges designed to improve physical and mental health and prevent cognitive decline, including learning to drum in front of 70,000 Ed Sheeran fans, climbing a frozen 600-foot wall and undergoing Special Forces pain training. We guess when you’ve already reached peak fitness like Hemsworth has, you don’t get out of bed for a challenge lesser than any of those.
